Our
compatriots told about this beautiful experience:”After the
initial impact with our jaws held tight and our broken English
we had to literally run for cover to shield ourselves against
the cold, including our suitcases for the return trip.
Four
intense days ensued with a truly demanding schedule: the first
two for trial runs in which we were to sculpt two blocks of
ice at a time measuring 1 meter by 25cm by 50cm, creating
objects chosen by the spectators with a high level of
involvement. The third day, the competition really heated up,
with a sculpture created with 17 blocks with a minimum height
of 3.3 meters; everything was to be completed in 9 hours. The
last day another four blocks with a minimum height of 2.4
meters in 2 and a half hours; the competition ended with a
single themed block that had to be completed in 10 minute. As
the end of the competition the visual impact was unbelievable;
hundreds of ice sculptures scattered everywhere with figures
of horses, dragons dog sleds, Viking ships…a unique,
incredible display in a fitting fantastic setting which was
totally rewarding in and of itself even beyond the results.
In
any case there was great satisfaction in winning third place
– even if there is room for improvement – in an event
which hosted teams from Norway, Finland, Japan, Canada, USA
and France.
At
the end of the event there were fireworks with thousands of
spectators, handshakes, and compliments from these people of
the north and this helped in sealing friendship in a
incomparable, festive climate
The
cold in any case played an important role in the success of
the works. The severs cold which is actually equal to – 150
C, allows the inhabitants to admire the masterpieces until the
end of April. The support of our partners and the support of
the Director of the SIRMAN’s Chicago headquarters, who
attended the event should also be mentioned
All
in all it was an unforgettable and friendly expedition, with
the satisfaction of having once again taken Italy to
world-class heights.”
